(Lol, I couldn't think of a title! ) A girl was walking through the city. She looked about 10 and appeared to be alone. She had dirty blonde hair and brown eyes. Her clothes were torn in places and her face was slghtly grubby. (I like that word. Grubby! GRUH! BEE! )

Hey, kid. You alone? A sinister voice hissed fromthe shadows. faint black shape was stood there, leant up against the all. A tall figure was smothered in a blck hoodie, hood drawn over his face, blavk pants and black boots. The hoodie looked a very weird shape at the back, and the creature kept it's hands up inside the sleves of the jumper.

The girl turned suddenly, facing the figure. "Yes. I'm alone." She said, and continued walking, her hands in her pockets.

Come back here, girl. The voice wove it's way around the alleyway. The figure seemed to hesitate. Come here. I know a home for you...

The girl stopped, and turned to face the figure. "I've heard that one a thousand times before." She paused, a small smile crossing her tanned face. "Why is your top a funny shape?" She giggled.

"It's not!" he snapped. As if he had suddenly remembered himself, he added in a velvety tone: "But I really can find you some parents. Really. Really. Just come here, my girl.. A little closer. Take my hand..." The creature offered a hand to Jeannie. It was covered in black leather apart from the pculiar, talon-like nails, which were a yellowy-cream colour. They appeared to have been painted, but badly.

Jeannie sniggered, "Your a demon or something, aren't you?" She smiled up at him, "Cute atempt to disguise yourself!" She seemed to think for a while, then she held out her hand. "I suppose I'll trust you. I have nothing to lose." She said.

The creature tried not to look too shoked. How could she have guessed?? Holding back a ferocious snarl, he patted self-consciously at his bulky back, not for the first time wishing he was like a Shadow Demon, and able to transform himself. But this was the closest he could get to a human. Scratching the back of his hooded head, he said: "Fine, fine. My name's Shade, and I'm a Fire Demon, and I was going to try to kidnap you... But, but, I guess I can still take you somewhere safe."

"You'll take me somewhere safe?" Jeannie said, her brown eyes going huge and round. She suddenly threw her arms around Shade's waist and started crying into his hoodie.

Shade's eyes widened. "Eheheh, yeah," he said, gently prising her arm away. "Follow me." The demon padded away, head low.

Shade tensed for a moment, then relaxed. He sneaked a look at the girl, aware that he and his girlfriend, Izzy, would never experience the joys of having children. This was simply because Izzy was a spectre. Not tightening or loosening his grip on the small girl, he carried on walking until he got to an old wooden barn, quite large. "This is my home," he said. "I know it looks rough, but inside it's erm... nice."

"It's better than a cardboard box." Commented Jeannie, still holding Shade's hand.

Shade said nothing, just led the small girl inside his 'house'. He sat her on a makeshift chair, two boxes fitted together, and padded over to a cupboard set in the grassy ground. In all the other places on the floor there was gribby, slimey carpet. Shade took off his gloves, hoodie and boots. There he stood, his chest bare, his red skin gleaming, his talongs dangerous looking. He opened the cupboard and took out a loaf of bread. He sniffed it, then cut it up. He made four sandwiches with it, then put some lum[s of cheese inside. He plced the sandwiches on a chipped old late, then took out a small box. Inside was some chicken legs. He took three out, gave two to Jeannie, then began to eat the other.

"Thankyou." Jeannie said politly, not taking any notice of Shade's strange appearance. She began to eat, then said, "Why are you being so nice to me?"

Shade hesitated, the reason being he himself did not know. He decided to avoid the question. "Your welcome to stay as long as you like," he said. The demon scratched at the ground with a claws foot. "I know it's not very hygenic, but there's food, and clean water," he added.

Shade gently prised her off and coughed awkwardly. He shifted his feet uncomfortably. "I... I wonder where Izzy is," he said.

"My girlfriend," said Shade hesitantly. "But she's not exactly... er... normal." He scratched his head awkwardly.
