"Erm... No, not technically," he said awkwardly. "Izzy's a... Izzy's dead. She's a ghost." Shade waited for the gasp, the scream.[/olor]

"It's not so bad," mumbled Shade, but this time made no attempt to dislode Jeannie. He smiled down at the clinging little girl. Eventually he gently prised her off again, and padded softly over to a pile of books. He swept the books away. Pages flew everywhere and clouds of dust burst into the air. A gang of spiders scuttled underneath the frame of the bed the books had been hidng. Shade swept some of the dust off of the cover, which had a picture of Mickey Mouse on it. "You can sleep here, if you like," offered Shade.

"Oh, OK, goodnight Jeannie," said Shade. He sat dow on a rickety old chair and picked up one of the many books on the floor. Just like all the others, the corner of one page was turned down. Yes, he was reading them all.... Soon Shade began to drop off. The book slipped from his hands and he bega to snore peacefully.

Jeannie giggled at Shade's snores, then her eyelids drooped and she fell asleep too.

Jeannie turned over and sat up. She rubbed her eyes, then looked over at Shade. "Shade? Are you awake?" She whispered. Then she clambered out of bed and scrambled onto his lap. She snuggled into his chest.

Shade jumped awake and peered down at Jeannie. He ran a clawed hand through his messed-up mohekan with a blustery sigh. He carefully picked up the small child and placed her on her feet on the wooden floor. With a yawn, he asked her: "Breakfast?"

As if in answer Jeannie's stomach growled loudly and she started to giggle.

Shade grunted and took that as a yes. He fished around in the cupboard he had produced the meat from, and picked out a loaf of strange, fiery red bread. He cut it up and handed a slice to Jeannie. "It's OK," he reassured her. "It's just bread made from a Fire Demon recipe, that's all. Tey some, it's better than normal bread!"

Jeannie looked around expectantly, she smiled as Izzy appeared through the wall. Izzy gave Shade a small smile, "Hi Shade." She said, she noticed Jeannie, "Oh, and who's your friend?" Jeannie bounced up and said, "Hi I'm Jeannie! Shade's been telling me about you!"

Shade looked at Izzy apolegetically. "Sorry," he mumbled. "Yeah, like she said, that's Jeannie. I... found her." The deom scuffled the dirt floor with a clawed scarlet paw.
